NASA Moon to Mars Challenge Patch Winner

Updated: Dec 8, 2019

You can be the one - in - a - million. Don't be discouraged by the odds to succeed. - David Beckham.

Ever since 1965, NASA and their Astronauts have made it a point to create unique patches for their Spacesuits whenever they go a cool new journey to space. Their designs can range from really simple to intricate, but all tell a unique story about the mission they represent with the use of words, shapes or pictures. Usually, the crew of astronauts collectively design or consign the patch design to a professional before their mission but this time around was special.

NASA and Tynker partnered together to create the "Moon 2 Mars" Challenges as a fun way to include kids on NASA's most ambitious mission yet. One of the challenges was for Tynker kids to use their knowledge and creativity in coding to design an animated mission patch before 11.59pm Pacific Time on Sunday, May 5th. All students would stand a chance to win a Live Video Chat with a NASA expert on the week of May 19, 2019 - NASA's 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 10 Mission.

All Tynker students around the world would be brief by their teachers a little about NASA's history and their current mission to Moon then Mars in order to get an idea about what to create for their patches. Nearly 10000 patches submitted, only 5 patch designs by 5 lucky kids would be chosen by NASA experts to be winners. 7 out of our 9 RealFun student designs were selected as featured design (total 134 featured patches for the competition) and we are proud to say congratulations to one of our students for being one of those 5 lucky winners.

He, his family and classroom will be celebrating his achievement on this coming Friday (24th May 2019) during the live video chat with a NASA expert. We always knew that he was meant for bigger things after first joining our 10 Week Challenge last year and we are very proud of his achievement! Congratulations again Wei Rui for winning and making us proud, you deserve it! Today is an amazing day for Miri, Sarawak and Malaysia!
